Some Colour Theories

This website shows each colour and theories behind how they make people feel and what emotions are brought out by each one  http://www.infoplease.com/spot/colors1.html

With a particular section at the bottom stating;

"Food for Thought
While blue is one of the most popular colors it is one of the least appetizing. Blue food is rare in nature. Food researchers say that when humans searched for food, they learned to avoid toxic or spoiled objects, which were often blue, black, or purple. When food dyed blue is served to study subjects, they lose appetite.
Green, brown, and red are the most popular food colors. Red is often used in restaurant decorating schemes because it is an appetite stimulant."

Colour Schemer Blog again states that red used by may fast food restaurants like McDonalds, Burger King and KFC is "high-energy, bustling and most importantly fast". They also say that green appears as a more natural colour when used with food, as it is the most common colour in nature.

There appears to be more truth to this than I first thought...

The Psychology of Colour by Walter Graff again states that red is linked to appetite. It is really interesting and I recommend actually reading it and not just taking my word for it.
